“Adding Your Picture to Other People’s WordPress Blogs By Rob Canyon”

Blogs, Internet Marketing

This post was written by Rob Canyon and as I thought it was a useful post I have reproduced it here.

This is how to add your picture to other people’s WordPress blogs… ‘Automatically”

Before we begin, lets just say for the sake of simplicity…  *** You can’t add your picture to other people’s blogs…  only Gravatar.com can ***  let me elaborate…

When you set up a free account at Gravatar.com (see below), upload a picture of yourself (they call it a Gravatar) and attach that picture to a preferred email address of yours (see below)… every time you place a comment on someone else’s blog using that same preferred email address, your picture will be displayed there too.

Some blog owners also like to list Top Commentors in their blog sidebars and so if you’ve set up your free account with Gravatar.com like I’ll show you below… presto your picture (Gravatar) will be displayed in their sidebars too.

The Top Commentor pictures shown at these blog websites are of comment authors that have set up their free Gravatar.com accounts.  Missing pictures indicate only one thing… these comment authors free Gravatar.com accounts have not been set up.

This is how to set up your free Gravatar account so that blogs everywhere will show your picture (Gravatar) automatically… every time you make comments that is.

step #1 go to http://en.gravatar.com/ then locate the ‘Log in to, or Sign up for, Gravatar’ or the ‘Sign up Now!’ hyperlink and click it.

NOTE: If you have a WordPress.com account you automatically have a Gravatar.com account as well. So instead of following all the steps below you just log in to your existing account and upload a picture as from step 6 below.

step #2 enter the email address you’d like to use when creating comments on other people’s blogs and click ‘Sign Up’

step #3 ’support@gravatar.com’ will automatically send you a confirmation email, so go to your email and check for it.

step #4 click on the confirmation link in that email…  then you will be automatically redirected to gravitar.com again

Gravatar.com may ask you for such things as a nickname and probably to double enter a preferred password before your free account gets instantly and automatically set up.

step #5 by now, you should have been redirected to your personal account at gravitar.com, if not go there and log in again with the same user ids and passwords you’ve just set up.

step #6 now… hover your cursor over ‘My Account’ and then click on ‘Add an Image’

step #7 click on ‘My Computer’s Hard Drive’ to upload your picture…for the purpose of this example (other options are also available to source your picture).

step #8 click ‘Browse’ and immediately a ‘File Upload’ window will appear.  Find your picture file (a small square one is preferred, 80 pixels x 80 pixels is best) and click on it.

step #9 click on ‘Open’ and you’ll immediately see the ‘File Upload’ window disappear.  And now you’ll see the box to the left of the word ‘Browse’ fill up with words (basically the location of your picture).

step #10 click ‘Next’.  You should be immediately re-directed to the picture finishing area.  By holding down your left click and mouse you should be able to stretch and adjust what is about to become your WordPress Gravatar. Click ‘Crop and Finish!’ when your satisfied with the preview picture.

step #11 if you’re prompted click on the ‘G’ rating for your picture…. and presto you’re good to go,

You’ll notice that you’re picture has now been added to your Gravatar account.

Next…  I’ll walk you through turning on pictures (Gravatars or in WordPress they call these Avatars) in your own blogs.  Don’t worry, its an easy couple steps and steps that can be reversed anytime you want.  Here goes…

step #12 login to your blog at http://yourblogsite.com/wp-admin, p.s. for those that don’t know how to do this just call or email your web hosting service provider and they’ll show you exactly what to do…

step #13 next, scan your eyes down the left side column to where you see the tab ‘Settings’ and click it,

step #14 then, go down below the ‘Settings’ tab to where you see the ‘Discussion’ tab and click it,

step #15 now scroll down to the bottom of this page until you see the heading that says ‘Avatars’, then click the radio button beside ‘Show Avatars’.  Its just to the right of ‘Avatar Display’.

step #16 click on the blue ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom and you’re good to go.

NOTE You’ve got some options with respect to ‘Default Avatars’.  This just allows you to tell your blog what to display if and when anybody comments and doesn’t have a picture set up at gravatar.com.

If you’re blog is brand new and you want to check your picture/gravatar/avatar just add a comment any post on your own blog then approve your comment and you’ll see exactly what you’ve done.

Approving Comments is easy.  If you’ve never done this before here are the steps…

step #18 next, scan your eyes down the left side column to where you see the tab ‘Comments’ and click it,

step # 19 when you hover your cursor over any comment you’ll notice the words ‘Approve’, ‘Spam’, ‘Delete’, ‘Edit’, ‘Quick Edit’ and ‘Reply’ will show up at the bottom.  Click on ‘Approve’ and presto your comment is approved and now shows under its respective blog post… with your picture.

If this information was helpful to you, a few kind words in a comment on this blog post would be greatly appreciated.

Reasons For Not Succeeding Online

David had 7 reasons why you can fail on line and I have added an extra one myself.  They are:

  1. Scared of failure and success – you could be consciously or unconsciously scared of failing or succeeding in your efforts to make money on line and this will hold you back.
  2. No plan – If you don’t have a plan of where you want to go or what you want to happen you will fail.  Those who do not have a plan are planning to fail.
  3. No Mentor – Without a Mentor you are trying to reinvent the wheel over and over again.  With a Mentor you are learning from someone who has already made the mistakes and overcome them to succeed online.  It is important to choose the right Mentor who will train and support you until you are a success.
  4. No system – Without a system you will jump from one hyped up item to another and whilst you may make some income you are not going to make the income you should be earning.
  5. No focus – If you are not focused you will get distracted over and over again and go nowhere fast.
  6. Love hype – If you are like me you receive loads of emails inviting you to the latest new product or system for making money online, I have found most of these to be over-hyped and all with something missing.  Ie they promise the earth but don’t necessarily deliver.  I now bin approx 95% of all emails without even opening them as I was getting severely distracted.
  7. Technophobia – You may be scared of the technical aspects of setting up a website, getting a domain name, uploading your sales/optin page etc. etc.  Don’t it is really quite simple and with the right hosting company and/or Mentor you can get all the help you need from their technical help desk.  For hosting I recommend GVO who can be checked out Here.
  8. Believing friends and family when they tell you that you are wasting your time you can’t make money online.  Get a real JOB.  You must believe in yourself and ignore those negative influences which are holding you back.

Are You Being Held Back

  1. You need to identify areas that are holding you back – These may be listed under the reasons above or there may be other areas which you can identify which slow down your rate of success.
  2. You must get out of the rut you are in – You have to change for yourself and move forward,  your mentor may help by giving you a push but if you don’t act you will get nowhere.
  3. Rich Schefren says that it is your constraints not your traits that hold you back

Levels Of Competency

  1. Unconscious Incompetent – This means you are incompetent but do not realise that you are incompetent.
  2. Conscious Incompetent – You realise you are incompetent and work to change.
  3. Conscious Competent – You are competent at what you are doing but have to concentrate to get it right.
  4. Unconscious Competent – You do tasks without needing to think about them.  This is the stage that most of the Gurus have reached and that you are aiming for.

Importance Of Passion

  1. It’s as simple as being passionate about your subject and getting compensated for your passions. If you aren’t passionate about your subject you may make some income from it but your lack of passion will show and your income will eventually (maybe quickly) dry up.
  2. Ask yourself the following questions A. “Would you di it if you didn’t get paid?” B. “Could you do it for the rest of your life?”  If your answer is no then you are not passionate about the subject and will find it harder to succeed.
  3. Your passions will shine through in your niche.
  4. Passion fuels your brand and helps to ensure your success.
  5. Passion builds community – Other people who are also passionate about your subject will come to you for advice and/or give you assistance if needed.
  6. It’s easy to spot inauthentic people – They will not necessarily be able to answer immediately any questions you may have about their product or service.

The Right Attitude

  1. View your business as a long term commitement to helping your customers become more successful -  Don’t just try to take them for all you can get out of them as your reputation depends on their goodwill.
  2. The fastest way to build up a list of loads of people is to provide and market FREE content. – By  giving away loads of free content people get to know, like and trust you so that when you try to sell them something they will be more likely to purchase from you and not your competitors.
  3. Provide value – The more valuable information you give the better for your future success.

Back To Basics

  1. Treat this as a real business – if you don’t you will have a hobby not a business and will not be as successful as you can be.
  2. There are deadlines involved – these should be set as tight as you can make them otherwise things will be put on the back burner and possibly never get done.
  3. As Alex Jeffreys says – “This is not a get rich quick Scheme, it is a get rich forever plan,”  “Don’t chase money, let money chase you.”

You Need to Have 3 Plans

  1. A  Business Plan – giving the functions of your business.
  2. An Entrepreneur Plan – Your goals in life as a business person and what income you expect to get for each goal.
  3. A Personal Plan – eg more family time, more vacations, a new car etc. etc. etc.

Pareto’s Rule 80/20

This rule states that:

  1. 80% of productivity comes from 20% of time
  2. 80% business comes from 20% of tasks
  3. 80% of sales from 20% of customers
  4. 80% of blog comments from 20% of readers

In general 80% of your results will come from 20% of your efforts.  You could work 24/7 and still not get everything done, don’t be a slave to your business.  Put in your time on tasks which bring the most rewards and if needs be outsource the less productive tasks.

Parkinson’s Law

Work expands to fill the available time for its completion – If you have say 5 hours for a task which you can do in 2 you will get distracted and need the 5 hours to complete the task.

You need to be strict with your deadlines so that you don’t put off tasks and then have to rush to complete them on time as this can lead to poor quality workmanship.

How much time do you want to waste?

Plan For Success

Without a plan for success you will end up confused, over worked and underpaid.

Plans are not set in stone, they are flexible and can be changed to suit changes in your circumstances.  Ie your child, partner, best friend suddenly has to go into hospital and you need to spend time with them.  If your plan is properly set up you can change it to suit the reduction in your time available.

Set Your Targets For Work

The following are some things you should plan and do on a daily basis.

  1. Only read email twice a day – don’t think you must answer an email immediately, more often than not it can wait until later.
  2. You should only drink water or flavoured water in the office except on your necessary tea or lunch breaks – this is to ensure that you don’t get dehydrated as 2% dehydration leads to 20% less productivity.
  3. Work to a countdown timer on productive tasks – you can use a kitchen timer or one available on the internet.  By setting the time for the task you will be encouraged to stick at it.
  4. Complete daily did sheets – these are a record of what you did that day and will show what percentage of time you spent on productive tasks as against non productive ones.
  5. Plan tomorrow today -  This gives you a list of what you need to do tomorrow and can be compared with tomorrows did sheet afterwards to ensure you are not wasting time.

Focused Plan

99% of people will fail when they try to make it on line.  The reason for this high failure rate is that they do not have a plan of how they intend to succeed.

With one goal you have a 95% chance of success whereas with two goals set for the same time frame you only have 70% chance of success.  This means you should only set your goals one at a time and when you have succeeded with your first goal then move to your second and so on.

No Plan

Distractions galore – Email, Twitter, Skype, Facebook, Forums, Websites etc, etc etc.  Every distraction gives you 11 minutes disruption thus time wasted.  If you have 11 disruptions in a day you lose 2 hours from your productive time thus you will be delayed.

Plan Ahead For 90 Days

  • Break your 90 day plan into 3 one month plans
  • Break your month plan into 4 weekly plans
  • Create daily tasks from week 1
  • Plan tomorrow today
  • Work backwards from your end goal.

Split Daily tasks into A-B-C tasks

  • ‘A’ tasks must always be completed – these are your priority tasks and they take your business forward.
  • Don’t become too busy dealing with ‘C’ tasks just because they are easy to do.
  • Don’t multi-task – only do one task at a time.

Trying to concentrate on lower priority tasks means the higher priority tasks will not be completed, and if you try to multi-task you may end up getting nothing finished.

Daily Did Sheet

You need to keep a record of how much time you spent on each activity during the day.  These activities include productive tasks, email, skype, surfing the web, facebook, telephone calls etc, etc, etc.

If you work on one ‘A’ list task for 60 minutes and do this 4 times a day you will get more work done than most people do in a month. In three days you will have done as much as others do in a year.

You should take regular breaks 5 – 10 minutes at a time after spending 60 minutes on an ‘A’ list task.

Keep A Journal

By keeping notes on what you have learned you can look back after 30 days on what you have done.  These notes will then help you to create a short report on what you have learnt.  This report can then be used as a giveaway to help build your list.  As all the Gurus say the money is in the list, but before that is true you need to have a list with a reasonable number of people on it.  Each person on your list generates $1 per day for you.

With a list of 1,000 people you will not get $1,000 each day but may get 10,000 one day and nothing for the next week or so, then $5,000 another day.  It comes in good days and bad days but averages out to $1 per day over the year.

This has been a breakdown of the first in a series of Free webinars that David Walker is conducting and if you would like to listen live to his next webinar it will be on Tuesday 1st December and you can sign up on his blog at www.davidwalker.tv

I look forward to seeing your comments below giving your views on this rather long post and hope you have enjoyed reading it.
