David Walker’s Giveaway

Giveaways, Internet Marketing

David Walker will be 30 on the 6th May and to celebrate he is running a giveaway.  The giveaway is called David Walker’s 30th Birthday Giveaway and opens for members on the 6th May, it will run until 16th May.

It is open for people to become contributors at present and at the time of writing David has over 70 Marketers signed up and contributing gifts.

These gifts include ebooks, audio products, video products etc. and he is still looking for more people to contribute a gift to the giveaway.

You can sign up here

David has said that no one will be downgraded after submitting a gifts because they have not managed to recruit any other members, so if you are looking to build your list even if you don’t have one at present, sign up, submit your gift and you will get some sign ups.

The giveaway script emails talk about thousands of signups from the giveaway but my experience is that you will get between 30 and 100 names from each giveaway you enter.

As there are somewhere around 5 or 6 giveaways running every month if you enter them all and only get 30 signups from each in 1 months time you will have a list of 30 x 5 = 150 names.  If however you get 100 from each you will have 100 x 5 =500 names.  in 6 months time you will probably have  30 x 5 x 6 = 900 names or 100 x 5 x 6 = 3,000 names.

From the calculations above you can see how easy it is to build a list from giveaways and if you haven’t started using them yet why not?

Sign up here for David’s giveaway and if you want to sign up for other current giveaways check out my J V Giveaways page here on the blog.

JV Giveaways Webinar

Giveaways, Internet Marketing, Webinars

Paul Teague and Ashley Gough held a 2 hour webinar  on JV Giveaways and how to use them to build your list.

The webinar covered the following points:

  • Why Giveaways are the Number One way to build your list
  • The 5 basic steps in any giveaway
  • Professional tips for registration
  • How to setup your profile, free gift, text ads and special offer
  • A special guest (Adrainne Lee) who explained how she built her list from zero to 1,500+ just using giveaways
  • Why you should get out of giveaways when your list reaches 1,000

Lets take these in order

Why Giveaways are the number one way to build your list

When you are starting off with no list using giveaways helps you to get started building one fast and easily.

  1. You don’t need a website
  2. You don’t need to be a known person in internet marketing
  3. You can start for free or for next to nothing
  4. Your traffic comes from the giveaway so you don’t need any of your own
  5. You don’t need a vast knowledge of technical skills.  If you can use a word document and cut and paste text then you can do this.
  6. You don’t need your own product.
  7. You must have access to a computer with a broadband connection.  It doesn’t have to be your own.  You could use one at your local library or a friends one.
  8. You must have an email address
  9. You must have a paypal account
  10. You must have an autoresponder

Points 7 – 10 are the only items needed to enable you to join giveaways and build your list.  The more giveaways you join the faster your list will grow.

The 5 basic steps in any giveaway are:

  1. Enter your details into your profile for the giveaway.  This includes your name, email address, a photo of yourself (Passport size and style is all you need).
  2. For each gift you then add a description, optin page url and download page url
  3. Add your text ad or ads
  4. Add your Special Offer or Offers
  5. Promote the giveaway – with some giveaways if you have not sent some people to the giveaway by preset deadlines your gift will be removed and you will therefore not get any signups.  Promotion can be done by email, using Twitter, Facebook etc.

Paul gave a live demonstration on signing up to a test giveaway to show how easy it is at this point.

Professional tips for registration

  1. If you don’t get your registration email – check your spam folder
  2. Hotmail addresses cause problems with giveaways and some hosts also report problems with gmail/googlemail although I personally have never had a problem using gmail/googlemail.
  3. If you don’t get your registration email use the help desk to contact the host and they will sort it out.  Emails sometimes go astray no matter what service you are using and the host can easily resend the activation email.
  4. As Paul says these events are not scams he has never yet been in one that was badly run or the host did not respond to his queries.

How to set up your profile, Gift(s), Text Ads. and Special Offer

The first thing to do once you log into the giveaway is to set up your profile so click on the profile tab at the top of the page then:

  1. Enter your name
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Enter your password – this will have been supplied in your registration email or it may be one you select yourself depending on the giveaway setup.
  4. Upload a passport sized photo of yourself
  5. Enter your Paypal email address
  6. Enter your Clickbank ID if you have a clickbank account
  7. Enter your Twitter user name assuming you have a Twiter account.

To set up your gift(s) click on the Manage Gifts tab then:

  1. Enter your product name
  2. Enter your product image
  3. Enter a logo image if you have one
  4. Enter a short description of your product
  5. Enter a long (sometimes called full) description of your product
  6. Enter your squeeze page url
  7. Enter the direct download url
  8. Enter your support email address in case of problems downloading your gift

To enter your text ads click the Text Ads Management tab

  1. Enter the title for the ad
  2. Enter the text for the ad
  3. Enter the display url
  4. Enter the destination url

To enter your special offer click on the Special Offer Management tab then:

  1. Enter the offer name
  2. Select the price from the range given in the drop down box
  3. Enter the download url
  4. Enter the sales page html without any sign up form

Ashley says this is much easier if you install the screen grab addon in firefox and take a screen grab of your offer and save it to your desktop.  Open the image in Photoshop or a similar program and crop the image to remove the background and just retain the content then set the width to 700 pixels.

Upload the final image to your domain.

Insert the following html code into the Special Offer section at point 4 above:

<div align=”centre”><img src=”http://www.yourdomain.com/images/yourimagename.jpg “width=”700″ height= “xxx” align=”middle”></div>

For each of the above Paul showed how to do them live on screen with his test giveaway.  Ashley’s method loaded much quicker that just copying and pasting the html from the sales page.

At this point Paul invited Adrienne Lee to come on line and tell how she got over 1,000 signups just using giveaways.  After Adrianne’s short talk she said that her ebook “How I Got Over 1,000 Signups Thanks To Giveaways” could be downloaded from her website at AdrianneLeeMarketing.com free of charge.

Paul then went on to tell us how you could get started for free with giveaways and the following steps are what he explained:

  1. Take out a free membership of Viral Ebook Explosion as this will give you a product image and a free ebook to list in the giveaway.
  2. Sign up for a free account at Instant Squeeze Page Generator as this will give you your sign up page.
  3. Get an autoresponder as you will need it for anything you are going to do on the internet.

I recommend GVO who offer not only an autoresponder but also unlimited domain name hosting, Video hosting, a video creation package with Easy Video Producer, etc.  Now some of their functions you will not need at first but will as your presence develops.  They offer a $1 trial for 14 days and after that their Titanium package is $44.95 per month and allows you 20,000 signups.  Get response offers a free trial but restricts you to 10 signups.  Aweber costs $19 per month until you reach 500 subscribers and then increases in steps to £149 per month for 10,000 to 25,000 subscribers and keeps increasing as your list grows

You can get free autoresponders but if something goes wrong with them you could end up losing all your subscribers and having to start from Zero again.

Most companies will allow you to transfer names from another service but usually insist that your subscribers have to reconfirm their details and this could mean that you lose a large percentage of them through apathy.  This was happening to me when I first switched from Aweber to GVO but after talking to the technical team and being able to prove that my list were all double optin subscribers they manually uploaded them for me.  Other companies may not be willing to do this so be careful when you select your company as you may be stuck with them.

If you want to take the $1 trial with GVO click the GVO link at the top of the right sidebar on this blog.

Why you should get out of giveaways when your list reaches 1,000

Once you have 1,000 subscribers on your list you should move on and try a new technique for list building as it is now time to diversify your efforts.

Why do you need to diversify?  Quite simple you will find that most giveaway signups are not buyers and it is buyers that you need to make your income from.

Once your list has reached 1,000 you should then try Ad swaps.  Whilst you can get Ad swaps with a smaller list you are likely to find that you are swapping with others with similar sized lists and will not get as good a result as you will when your list reaches 1,000 +

Ad swaps will be covered in a later post.

Don’t abandon giveaways totally just concentrate on the best ones rather than all the giveaways that are available.
